History of Blackjack

Today the game of blackjack is being played online due to the popularity it has received since its discovery. Most people believe that the game of blackjack was invented in France in the 16th century.

French Version

The game was being referred to as “Vingt-En-Un” that stands for 21 in French. This game is not very different from the one being played today. In the traditional game, it was only the dealer who was allowed to double and it was the responsibility of players to bet in each round. The game was being actively played during the French revolution.

Italian Version

The game later moved to Italy where it came to be famous for being a Seven and a half where the players main objective was to reach a hand that had the value of 7 ½. In this game the all the regular cards had a value of 1 while the face cards had a value of 1/2 . The term bust also originated from this Italian version of blackjack where players were regarded to as bust if they went past the 71/2 point.

American Version

Due to the French revolution where many people migrated to the US, the game migrated with them. During this time the US did not have any anti-gambling laws and this resulted in the game becoming quite popular in a very short while. The game continued to be played albeit underground even after the US adopted an anti-gambling law. In the early 20th century however, some states in the Us started legalizing this game and many casinos started providing it. It was in this country that this game changed its name from 21 to blackjack. Due to the fact that the game had become very popular many people opened casinos and this brought about stiff competition. This competition then brought about some changes in the game where some casinos introduced new rules that were meant to attract more players as well as retain their existing clients. One of the main introductions was the new bet which allowed a player to wager on a hand that contained one of the blackjacks as well as the ace of spades. After a few years this bet was abandoned.

Online Blackjack

Due to the number of people who were finding it hard to make their way to casinos to play blackjack, casinos started providing online blackjack to players. This meant that players would now enjoy blackjack games from the comfort of their homes if they had a computer and an internet connection. This game is played similarly to the regular blackjack with the only difference being that you will not be holding the cards physically but they will visible in your online blackjack account when playing. Bets are also not placed by word of mouth but by clicking on the appropriate button on the screen of your computer.
